Finley Asphalt & Concrete recently completed a parking lot paving and asphalt milling job for a commercial customer in Richmond, VA.
The existing parking lot was flat and had a lot of drainage issues. There was severe cracking in multiple areas in addition to potholes. Water was pooling any time it rained, causing further damage. Water can actually saturate and weaken the materials in the subgrade and aggregate base, and traffic loading can cause excess damage. Recognizing that poor drainage can lead to the further deterioration of their heavily-trafficked parking lot, the owner of the property wanted to have the issue addressed as soon as possible.
The property owner asked for recommendations for the best asphalt contractor in town and several of our existing customers referenced us. He reached out to us to ask for a consultation. We were able to get to his site early the next morning. We surveyed the lot and identified the side of the parking lot that needed to be built up, in order to create a drainage slope. He was impressed with our knowledge and asked us to do the job.
We started the project the next Friday, when business was slower. We started by milling the existing pavement then added a thicker overlay on the side that needed built up. We brined the thickness of the overlay down too in order to get positive drainage and milled and paved to achieve this result. The new lot looks amazing and all of the drainage issues have been sufficiently addressed.
