The asphalt paving crew at Finley Asphalt & Concrete performed a parking lot milling and paving project in the Georgetown South Community in Manassas, VA, which is one of the oldest communities in town.
Several of the parking lots in the community needed attention. Cracks and other problems had developed due to drainage issues in many of the areas. Improper drainage can be detrimental to any asphalt pavement surface as it slowly breaks down the asphalt. Water that cannot drain properly breaks down the bonds between the rocks and sand and the asphalt binder, which is a by-product made from crude oil during the production of gasoline – and oil and water don’t mix. Drainage issues should be stopped as quickly as possible once they are identified to prevent further deterioration of the pavement surface.
We have worked with many in the community and educated them on this, so they knew it was time to have the parking lots addressed. We milled the lots first to ensure that any previous damage to the pavement surface is completely repaired, increasing the lifespan of the lots while offering a more comfortable ride for those who drive on it. We addressed drainage issues as we went and then paved the surfaces.
One of the areas we worked on was a play area that was hard to get to. We repaved the play court using dumpers to transport the asphalt. The new surfaces are ready to use and look fantastic. Thank you to the Georgetown South Community for working with us again for your asphalt maintenance needs.
