The Ocracoke Youth Center sports court paving project by
Finley Asphalt and Concrete (FAC) was a triumph over unique challenges, showcasing the company’s problem-solving prowess and community impact.
Remote Ocracoke Island, NC had unused marshland and limited access to recreational activities. After searching for the best asphalt company for municipal paving, Finley’s reputation earned them the job. We’re always happy to help local communities in
Virginia and surrounding states improve their properties, roadways, and the lives of their residents. The project transformed a marshy wet area into a professional-grade sports facility with an ADA parking area.
How Our Paving Company Brought Asphalt Sports Courts to Ocracoke Island
Located on the remote Ocracoke Island, NC, accessible only by ferry, this sports court paving project required meticulous planning and execution. The scope of work included laser grading 4 inches of stone with automated equipment, installing brand-new pavement, and performing quality line striping to create a parking lot and the sports courts. However, the logistical challenges were immense. FAC had to send two sets of paving equipment via ferry, navigating a tight schedule with the ferry system that could only take two trucks at a time.
With operations starting at 2:30 am, FAC ensured the timely delivery of our advanced equipment and the asphalt. With automated equipment, they graded the stone, setting the stage for a flawless construction process. Utilizing state-of-the-art equipment, the crew
installed asphalt pavement over the whole site in a paving process that not only met industry standards but also ensured a durable and high-quality surface.
Concrete curbing was then expertly installed to define the boundaries. The crew’s attention to detail and commitment to excellence were evident as they crafted the curbing to integrate with the asphalt pavement seamlessly. The final touch involved the performance of precise
line striping to create an ADA-compliant parking lot and two sports courts.
Client comments from the Youth Center praised the Finley crew and their sports court paving skills, emphasizing the precision of the laser grading team and the asphalt team’s attention to detail. Despite challenges like rain, the site handled water efficiently. The team’s communication was detailed and timely, demonstrating ownership of the entire process.
The Youth Center looks forward to Phase 3, aiming to provide tennis and pickleball facilities for the local community, school kids, and future tourists in 2024. The project’s success is a testament to
Finley Asphalt and Concrete‘s ability to turn challenges into opportunities, leaving a lasting impact on the Ocracoke Island community.
